Today we are going to see and learn from the life of an awesome couple Priscilla and Aquilla. Priscilla was a Jew and he came with his wife Aquila to Corinth because in 49 AD Claudius had banished all the Jews from Rome.

1. Practice hospitality

Acts 18:1-4
1 After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.
2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,
3 and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.
4 Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

We see here that Paul went to visit them. May be Paul felt he could relate to them as they were tentmakers too. But Priscilla and Aquilla had just moved from Rome but they were ready to arrange accommodation for Paul.

Brothers / sisters, are we known for our hospitality? Do we invite disciples, to our house for tea or snacks or for a simple meal? When we love people we open up our houses for others.

Acts 18:18-19
18 Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchrea because of a vow he had taken.
19 They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

We see here that Paul left for Syria. But here again we see the Priscilla and Aquila had the heart to accompany Paul.

They were always thinking about the needs of the church and the ministry.

Q: Do we serve in the ministry? Do we feel like visiting and encouraging the brother or sister who missed a meeting? Do we clean the room up, fold the mat, sweep the floor if needed, put glasses back in the kitchen after the meeting?

Since Priscilla and Aquila were so hospitable, Paul remembers them and sends special greetings and mentions that they risked their lives for me in Romans 16:3

2. Stand up for Jesus

Acts 18:24-26
24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures.
25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.
26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

We see a man called Apollos who was from Alexandria. Alexandria was a city of scholars. The natives here loved to interpret the old Testament. Even though Apollos was a learned man and taught with fervor, he knew only about the baptism of John the Baptist, which is a baptism of repentance.

We see here the Pricilla and Aquila knew the scriptures well. How good is our Bible Study brothers and sisters? Is it just a token 2 or 3 chapters from Mark... Or are we getting insights from the Bible and growing in the knowledge of the scriptures. When they saw and heard an incomplete message they decided to share their faith. Do we share our faith with people who scare us? (May be more educated, better dressed, taller than us, speaks better than us) We should be ready to share our faith at all times.

Priscilla and Aquila did not just get critical with Apollo's message. They had the conviction to stand up for Jesus. They practiced hospitality and invited him over to their house and taught him more adequately. Do we know how to do guard the gospel studies with non-Christians? I believe every member of our churches should know to do Jesus the only way study. If you don't know talk to your discipler and get to sit on the next study and you can learn. Lets decide to take a stand and not be afraid of our family, friends, boss.
